Grace Church is mission-minded. A strong belief runs through this congregation that we best serve God by serving others. Our monthly “Noisy Bucket” (loose change) contributions are earmarked for mission needs as they arise.

Local

Grace's Kitchen - serves a free lunch every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall for anyone in financial need. It began June 10, 2007. We serve homemade soup, bread, and fruit.

Vermilion Food Pantry - Grace Church supports the Vermilion Food Panty through donations of cash and non-perishable food items throughout the year. Every November our Sunday School classes bring a different type of item as part of the “Harvest for Hunger.”

Salvation Army – Grace Church supports this mission organization throughout the year with donations of clothing and school supplies. In December the Salvation Army furnishes us with a list of kids by gender and age with their “wish list” for our annual “Angel Tree”. Anyone wishing to fulfill a child’s wish may take a name from the tree and purchase Christmas Gifts that are distributed by the Salvation Army. In December Sunday School classes and the congregation are encouraged to bring children’s mittens, scarves and hats to decorate our “Mitten Tree.”

Genesis House - Grace Church has lovingly made over 500 quilts that are then blessed by Pastor Joan during a Sunday Worship service in September or October and presented to a representative of Genesis House. The quilts are then given to children who are staying at Genesis House, a shelter for battered women and children in Lorain, Ohio.

Care Packages - are frequently sent to Vermilion natives who are serving in the military. Periodically through the school year Care Packages are also sent to the “away” college kids who are members of Grace Church.

Relay for Life

Berea Children's Home & Family Services of Lorain is an organization that equips and empowers children and families to reach their potential and become contributing members of a strong community. Grace UMC supports Berea's early childhood programs such as Help Me Grow that enriches the environment and parent/child interaction of families with children birth to age 3 who are at risk for abuse and neglect or suffer from developmental delays. The church also supports Berea's Workforce Investment Act program which provides literacy and life skills training, the tools of success to Lorain young adults who are lacking basic skills, have dropped out of school or are a pregnant or parenting teen.
Flat Rock Children’s Home is affiliated with the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Formerly an orphanage, the Children’s Home now serves children who are mentally retarded/ developmentally disabled.
Relay for Life - is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. The team from Grace Church had 28 participants in the 2007 Relay in Vermilion, and raised over $4700.00 for this important cause.
